Module Roadmap: Empathy

Welcome to Empathy. In this module, we will explore how we connect with others and the ways we can strengthen our ability to connect. Everyone values empathy, but it is a complex quality to demonstrate consistently amidst our busy and distracted lives.

Chances are you find your deepest joy, and toughest challenges, in relationships. If you are committed to putting in the time and effort, this learning path can help you boost the joy you experience, and turn your challenges into opportunities for healing and growth. And, importantly, you can learn to enable others to cultivate empathy.

Lesson 1: Learn about the three types of empathy.

Lesson 2: Explore times you’ve received empathy and how it works neurologically.

Lesson 3: Extend empathy to yourself.

Lesson 4: Forge deeper connections with others through human moments.

Lesson 5: Reflect on what you’ve learned.

This is a copy of the comprehensive learner’s guide for Self-Paced Foundational Skills 2 you received when you registered for the course. If you didn’t receive your copy, or misplaced it, you can always find it here, in the first lesson of Foundational Skills 2, or download a copy for your records.

For each competency you aim to develop during the Foundational Skills, we ask that you set an intention to get the most out of your experience. You can choose one of the intentions below, modify one to your liking, or write your own.

As I embark on developing empathy I want to…

  • better understand how others think and feel.
  • strengthen connections throughout my life.
  • prepare for an upcoming international assignment in a very different culture.
  • build stronger relationships with my coworkers.

The intention you choose may be more open-ended (like the first two) or more specific (like the latter two). Once you set an intention, share it in the reflection field below. If you wish, you might also add your motivation for setting this intention and how working toward it would make a positive impact.
