Positive outlook is the ability to see the best in people, situations, and events. It means persistence in pursuing goals despite setbacks and obstacles. You see opportunity in situations where others see a setback. You expect the best from other people. It’s a tendency toward a glass-half-full outlook that leads you to believe that changes in the future will be for the better. We’ll hone this competency over the next module. This lesson, you’ll begin by setting an intention and expressing gratitude.
Over the module you’ll strengthen your positive outlook, an EI competency that enables us to see the bright side and find opportunities where others see setbacks.
Lesson 1: Express gratitude.
Lesson 2: Find the positive.
Lesson 3: Evaluate your positivity.
Lesson 4: Disrupt negative self-talk.
Lesson 5: Reflect on what you’ve learned.
For each competency you aim to develop during the Foundational Skills, we ask that you set an intention to get the most out of your experience. You can choose one of the intentions below, modify one to your liking, or write your own.
As I embark on developing a positive outlook I want to…
The intention you choose may be more open-ended (like the first two) or more specific (like the latter two). Once you set an intention, typee it below. If you wish, you might also add your motivation for setting this intention and how working toward it would make a positive impact.
